Your Voice Matters

What can YOU do NOW:

1. Write your letter (addresses available by scrolling down to the post “Send Your Letters – Your Opinion Counts”)

2. To sign our petition go to:  http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/wheres-my-midwife

3. Join our events found at http://www.WheresMyMidwife.org

What we hope to accomplish:

1. New Hanover Regional Medical Center needs to change their policy on midwifery care to a more open and accessible one. This is why we are picketing them and will remain doing so until they set a time and date to meet with us! (See the bog post below that shows the letter sent to Dr. Cooper)

2. We want a free-standing birth center in Wilmington. All the proceeds of the “Where’s My Midwife?” fundraisers will go towards this goal.

3. We want licensure for CPM’s (Certified Professional Midwives) to practice in our State. Join http://www.NCFOM.org, North Carolina Friends of Midwives.
Furthermore, the right of independent practice for CNM’s (Certified Nurse Midwives) is needed in our State.

I’m very interested in helping to form a free-standing birth center. I’m currently an RN here and have a strong desire to become a CNM, however only want to work here if there’s a birthing center. Please let me know what I can do or where Wilmington stands with the progress of this much-needed establishment!!
    Thanks!

    Hi, Tara!
Please join up with “Where’s My Midwife?” at http://www.wheresmymidwife.org

We accomplished our first goal! In December 2009 NHRMC decided to drop its restrictive policy requiring an overseeing doctor to be on-site “waiting for (midwifery) patients to give birth”. Now a midwife’s overseeing doctor can be on-call, similar to most all other hospitals in America.
Next … Cape Fear Ob/Gyn, Glen Meade Ob/Gyn, and Carolina Ob/Gyn, why haven’t you hired any midwives for your practice? Oh, yeah, consumers need to ask for them….. PLEASE educate everyone you can on the benefits of midwifery care over obstetric care for low-risk pregnancies. The women in our community, for the most part, do not understand that it is better physically and mentally as well as SAFER, as proven by a recent study out of Canada, to have a midwife at your side for all your fertility needs BEFORE, DURING & AFTER for both baby and you!

  3. This design is wicked! You most certainly know how to keep a reader entertained.
Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well,
almost…HaHa!) Great job. I really loved what you had to say,
and more than that, how you presented it. Too cool!
